Nu Jade (2018 - 19)

Keywords: e-waste, amulet, nu jade, motherboard

Jade ornaments are worn in many cultures as a protection and to ward off the evil. But the apotropaic function associated with these pieces of jewellery - and with jade, a stone extracted from the earth and revered for thousands of years - is here distorted: on closer inspection, the stone-like material is rendered in compressed, recomposed shreds of discarded motherboards. Can this material, used for motherboards, be seen as a nu jade, on which the value systems of our contemporaneity are based? Will it eventually become a hybrid stone - a fossil of our world - in a hypothetical future, when archeologists will dig it up from the depths of the earth?
